Making sure that site welfare is in order

According to a survey of 3,500 members of the Unite trades union, the standard of welfare facilities on construction sites often fails to meet the legal requirements. The survey found that at one in six sites women and men have to share toilet facilities. The standard of cleanliness of welfare facilities was also found to be patchy with 4% of those surveyed saying that facilities were never cleaned.

Aegis has solar PV cells fitted to its offices

Aegis has had solar photovoltaic cells fitted at its Preston offices.  In total 29 panels have been fitted in the array which has a generating capacity of 8.27 KW of electricity.  They should generate annual savings of over £1,000 and reduce the company’s carbon footprint by 4 to 5 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Aegis retains ISO accreditation

Aegis has retained its International Standards Organisation (ISO) 9001 accreditation following an external two day audit by assessors from ISOQAR Alcumus – an independent inspection organisation – in November. This assessment was against the latest version of the standard – that from 2015 – which is different from the previous 2008 version. The latest version of the standard requires companies to consider the wider context and have a risk-based approach to management.

2017 in numbers: HSE annual statistics revealed

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has released its annual figures detailing how the UK is performing in terms of health and safety.

The figures show that, although Britain remains one of the safest places to work in Europe, an estimated 31.2 million working days were lost due to work-related illness – at a cost of an estimated £14.9 billion.

Aegis makes charitable donation to hospice

Aegis has shown its support for St Catherine’s Hospice by raising money so the Lostock Hall-based organisation could buy an important piece of equipment.

As part of its ongoing support of St Catherine’s and other charities in the local area, Aegis donated  £250 towards the cost of a “Billy Goat” – an industrial leaf blower for collecting leaves on site.
