The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015) are intended to protect the health and safety of people working in construction and others affected by the works by placing responsibilities on project duty holders including the Client, Designers and Principal Contractor.  The Regulations also define the role of Principal Designer who is responsible for planning, managing and monitoring the co-ordination of health and safety during the project.

As a company, we fulfil all the criteria relevant to the Principal Designer role. We have the Skills, Knowledge, Experience, Training and organisational capability required for this role and Aegis a Registered Practice for both Principal Designer services with the Association for Project Safety (APS). All of our CDM Consultants are Certified (CMaPS) or Incorporated (IMaPS) Members of the APS demonstrating their competence to undertake the Principal Designer role. Aegis has successfully continuously provided CDM services from the introduction of the Regulations in 1994, right up to the present.  During that time we have been appointed to more than 3,000 projects by over 500 clients, ranging from small refurbishments to projects over £250 million in value.

Aegis can help you with CDM 2015 by providing the following services:

Principal Designer

For construction projects where there will be more than one contractor, Clients have a responsibility to appoint a Principal Designer.  With one of the largest teams of CDM Consultants in the North West, Aegis has the skills, knowledge, experience, training and organisational capability to fulfil this role effectively as demonstrated by us being a Registered Practice for Principal Designer services with the APS.

Principal Designer Adviser

For construction projects where the Client or another Designer assumes the role of Principal Designer, Aegis can advise and assist them in planning, managing and monitoring the co-ordination of health and safety.  Knowing that they are being supported by qualified, knowledgeable and experienced CDM professionals from a Registered Practice for Principal Designer Adviser services will provide the re-assurance and guidance project dutyholders need in in carrying out their roles.

CDM Client’s Adviser

Under CDM 2015, Clients must ensure that construction work is carried out, so far as is reasonably practicable, without risk to the health and safety of workers and others.  Where Clients are unsure of how they are to fulfil their responsibilities under CDM 2015, Aegis can advise and support them.

Competence Assessment

Under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 an organisation or individual for whom a project is carried out must make sure that the principal designer, designers, principal contractors and contractors they propose to appoint have the skills, knowledge, experience, training (SKE&T) and organisational capability required for their role.
To be deemed compliant with the regulations, an organisation will need specific knowledge about the tasks they will be expected to perform, and the risks associated with these tasks. Clients can conduct SKE&T Assessments themselves or, alternatively, may choose to use the services of an independent organisation such as Aegis.
Aegis has personnel experienced in carrying out SKE&T Assessments on organisations on behalf of clients and principal contractors.
