£16.25 million ICON Rollercoaster
Aegis was appointed as the CDM Principal Designer for the UK’s first ever double-launch rollercoaster that reaches heights of 88.5ft, with drops of up to 82ft.
The £16.25 million project, not only included the construction of the rollercoaster but a substation, control room and retail outlet. ICON is Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s newest ride stretching over 1.14km accelerates at 0-80km/h in 2.25 seconds before reaching heights of 88 feet at speeds of up to 85km/h.
Aegis’ involvement ran from January 2017 to March 2018 and because of ICON’s location next to other attractions at the Pleasure Beach, the project was complex and carried various risks.
