Case Study - BRE Environmental Assessments (BREEAM)

Buckshaw Village Trinity C of E Primary School

Aegis was commissioned by the Diocese of Blackburn to act as CDM Co-ordinator for the construction of
the new Buckshaw Village Trinity C of E Primary School and to conduct a BREEAM Assessment of the
school buildings.

The design stage of the development achieved a BREEAM certificate rating of ‘Very Good’, which was the
target level specified.

The inclusion of solar thermal panels as a renewable energy source provided 30% of the required reduction
in the building’s CO2 emissions. This, in part, achieved six credits for an Energy Performance Certificate
Score of 39.

The project achieved the maximum score under the materials section of the assessment by selecting at least
80% of the major building elements with an environmental rating of A+.
