Fire Risk Assessments Stonyhurst College

Aegis has provided a range of services to Stonyhurst College since 1999, including health and safety advice and training, CDM co-ordination, risk assessments, site inspections and fire risk assessments. Working with the Stonyhurst staff over the past 12 years has enabled Aegis to forge a close and lasting working relationship with them.

In 2005 and in 2010-11 Aegis conducted fire risk assessments of Stonyhurst College, St Mary’s Hall Preparatory School and Hodder House School, which included all the buildings and grounds on site. The assessment of the college site was a difficult and complex task, recognising the size of the college and the presence of all the high risk areas associated with a boarding school for 500 pupils.

In addition, the age of sections of the college, some of which were built in 1794 and are Grade 1 listed, together with the presence of a large number of historical artefacts in the college’s church and five chapels, such as the Sodality Chapel, further complicated the assessments.

After conducting the fire risk assessment in 2011, Aegis was asked by Stonyhurst College to re-write their fire safety procedures.
