CIC (Community Integrated Care) is a national, not-for-profit social and health care provider and a registered charity.
EachStep Blackley is CIC’s pioneering dementia care service offering a complete range of support for people with dementia – home care, day care, respite care, and residential and nursing care.
CIC decided to demolish an existing two storey residential care home in Manchester and build a new three storey facility.
Aegis was appointed as CDM Co-ordinators and BREEAM Assessors for both the demolition of the pre-existing structure and the construction of the new building. The project ran from February 2010 to June 2012 with a value of £7 million.
The building was repositioned and is “U” shaped with an internal landscaped courtyard at the rear. The existing vehicular access was retained and 15 parking spaces provided.
EachStep Blackley includes a large respite household called ‘Thornlea’, which offers short-term residential care and support to up to 12 people.
EachStep Blackley also houses a large spacious day care service called ‘The Club’, which can accommodate up to 25 people at a time.
The building also includes four residential and nursing households that each support twelve people. These households have been purpose designed to promote the independence, safety and wellbeing of people with dementia.
There are a number of unique recreation facilities for residents to enjoy, including stunning landscaped gardens, a hair and beauty salon, an accessible gym and a library.
The accommodation has been designed to meet the BREEAM 2008 ‘Very Good’ rating for multi residential buildings.
